Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police mentioned they were notified by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.

An important official commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
