This Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence On Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators and London's Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with special merchandise. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the museum's theme. For collectors, however, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop will operate both on-site at the museum to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome packed with beautiful artwork that show Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is what an in-world scientist could produce once trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands were populated by Pidgeys instead of finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly treatment, treating Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

It is common for The Pokémon Company special edition cards for big events or brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards often feature the famous electric rodent that acts as the series face. What distinguishes this latest promotion apart however, is the unusually large size. Although precise specs have not been publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with customers able to get only a single card with each transaction.

Curbing Reseller Interest

According to a company statement, a portion of the pop-up items may also be available outside the institution itself. But, broader availability is slated for select retailers in the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire the card via the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. For those feeling left out, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City in the coming months.

"Every penny from purchases made in the museum store and its online store, which covers these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to conducting studies and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it says.
