The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular series reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
