The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
