The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
