The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:
- Each team has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
