The Gory Cartoon Movie Ending That Haunts Audiences
Out of every mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has stuck with me as much as the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker created a dark, bleak and frequently brutal world with a few small , desolate twinges of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a desire to expand animation even more, the director stated that it was actually an effort to express a widespread, multicultural message about “the common origin of each battle.”
That message is communicated via a band of vividly colored bears , obviously inspired by a popular series of lovable characters.
Growing up in a culture centered on warmongering as well as the defense industry, many of the bears are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a sacred text which states the bears they were once masters of the woodland, until the unicorns drove them out.
Some have not completely accepted the indoctrination, and prefer to try out substances or mate outdoors.
In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these bright beings show sexual organs , clear libidos.
For a particular especially vicious, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns transforms into a road to power — and particularly to supremacy over his softer, nicer brother the character Tubby.
This bear is a bully , a seeming sociopath , and while fear dominates his unit and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he seizes increasingly influence for himself, through ever more violent, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, these mythical beings are experiencing their own nightmare, as a growing, deadly beast in their forest.
“Initially, it appears as a comedy,” the director stated. “However it evolves into a more intense and sorrowful film. And ultimately, it becomes a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars starts out resembling one of the more whimsical films by an iconic filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in allowing cartoon characters curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Afterward it evolves into something more like a more grim film from that director, including ever more graphic violence , a noticeable relation to the actual suffering of conflict.
Ultimately, it becomes an outright Grand Guignol bloodbath.
The terror that turns the film an ideal spooky-season watch begins well before than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who want to see something they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a story which delivers unflinching brutality.
View it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and linger.
