Space-Based Imagery Reveal Iranian Naval Forces and Atomic Facilities Hit by US-Israeli Attacks.

A series of US and Israeli airstrikes has reportedly eliminated or harmed at least 11 Iranian naval vessels since the weekend, new orbital imagery show, with rocket sites and atomic facilities also coming under fire.

Images of the southern Konarak naval military port and the Bandar Abbas port installation, which sits on the Strait of Hormuz and contains the headquarters of the Iranian navy, reveal smoke billowing from several warships on the start of the week.

Naval Fleet Incurred Substantial Losses

Among the vessels destroyed was the IRINS Makran, the country's biggest warship which had served as a unmanned aerial vehicle platform. Aerial imagery showed black smoke rising from the ship which had been stationed at the Bandar Abbas base.

Analytical evaluations state that no fewer than a quintet of warships at Bandar Abbas were "damaged or eliminated". Photos of the south end of the port reveal plumes ascending from the IRINS Makran, while two other ships are visibly impacted, with one of them seen burning.

Over at Konarak, images reveal several damaged vessels, with intelligence reports pointing to impacts on six vessels. Photos from the start of the week also demonstrate that multiple structures at the installation have been destroyed.

"For decades the Iran's leadership has harassed commercial vessels," the head of US Central Command stated. "At present, there is not one vessel from Iran at sea in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz or Gulf of Oman, and we will persist."

Some ships allegedly sunk may have been hidden in aerial photos by weather conditions or battle damage, or struck at sea, and have yet to be fully confirmed. Separate reports indicated that an Iranian vessel was sinking near Sri Lanka's waters, prompting a rescue operation.

Rocket Installations and Atomic Locations Attacked

Eliminating Iranian missile bases and the hindering of atomic bomb programs were declared as other goals of the offensive. Aerial imagery also showed damage at the southerly Khorgu base and north-western Tabriz missile missile bases, and at the Konarak air air base, where missile storage facilities and bunkers were struck.

At the Choqa Balk-e unmanned aircraft site to the west of the city of Kermanshah, significant damage was observed to warehouses, underground facilities and unmanned aircraft systems.

Impact was also seen at a radar installation at the Zahedan airbase military airport in eastern parts of the country, near the frontier with neighboring nations.

Perhaps most notably, the new round of attacks have apparently focused on installations at the Natanz complex – widely believed to be at the core of the country's atomic program. The UN's atomic energy body said that the affected buildings were used for entry to the site's underground enrichment facility and that "no radiological consequence" was anticipated.

Broader Consequences and Assessment

Defense experts indicated that the strikes appeared to have "significantly degraded" the Iranian navy's capacity to sustain standard operations using its largest vessels. Nevertheless, it was stressed that Tehran maintains the option to launch unconventional attacks at sea through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, midget subs and its so-called "ghost fleet" of tankers.

The overall scope of the damage caused to Iran's defense facilities remains unclear, with attacks said to be continuing. Pictures also shows extensive destruction to the main offices of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the capital Tehran.

A significant number of public facilities also seem to have been damaged in the capital city and across the country after the fighting escalated. Reports of deaths from local officials suggest that many hundreds of civilians may have been lost their lives in the bombardment.

As the situation develops, review of space-based data will carry on to assess the unfolding battlefield picture.
