Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

Team management indicated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has been without fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
