Putin Assures Uninterrupted Crude Oil Supplies to the Indian Nation in Snub of American Demands

Amid a unambiguous message to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to provide “continuous” supplies of crude oil to India. This declaration came when Putin and Modi met in the Indian capital and declared their relationship were “immune to outside influence.”

A Statement Aimed at the Western Countries

This affirmation, made on Friday, seemed to be a pointed rebuke at western countries, that have tried to compel New Delhi into reducing its longstanding ties with Moscow. The backdrop is in response to earlier American measures, notably additional tariffs targeting New Delhi because of its acquisition of discounted Russian crude.

“Moscow remains a dependable supplier of oil and gas and anything needed for the growth of India’s industry,” Putin stated. “Russia is prepared to continue ensuring the steady delivery of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Modi, while not referencing crude specifically, supported the theme by saying that “secure fuel supplies has been a strong and important foundation of the bilateral alliance.”

Questioning American Pressure

Before the talks, in a media interview, Putin had criticized US interference over India's oil imports. The president questioned, “Should America has the right to buy our atomic materials, how can you deny India enjoy the equivalent access?”

The visit represented his first trip to India since the beginning of the situation in Ukraine, and both sides engaged in a clear attempt to project that the bond between the men was undisturbed.

An Unusual Greeting

Employing an rare gesture, the Indian PM met Putin upon his arrival. Both leaders exchanged a hearty embrace like longtime companions before holding a private dinner on Thursday evening.

Modi referred to India's alliance with Russia as “a guiding star” and noted it was “founded on shared respect and deep trust.”

Expanding Bilateral Partnerships

Friday's talks produced multiple key agreements regarding defence and financial collaboration. A major outcome was the finalization of an joint economic plan aimed at 2030, which aims to boost mutual trade to one hundred billion dollars annually by the end of the decade.

The leaders also vowed to recalibrate their military partnership. Although Russia continues to be India's biggest source of weapons, the volume has declined over the past decade as India works to widen its sources.

The official release highlighted an agreement on the collaborative manufacturing of advanced defence platforms, although direct details of deals for the Su-57 fighter jet were not made.

Overall, Russia and India affirmed that during the “ongoing challenging, tense, and unpredictable geopolitical situation, the Indo-Russian partnership stay resilient to external pressure.”
