New Year's Celebrants Advised to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Weather experts are reporting an icy commencement to the new year, with snow anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Celebrations Continue In Spite of Warnings
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay festivities are planned to take place, following last year's cancellation. This is in spite of yellow warnings for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so additional clothing will be needed," said the weather service.
Displays Under Clear but Frosty Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is likely to be perfect for fireworks shows, with no rain and clear skies. Readings are expected to be chilly, making additional clothing essential, according to forecasters.
Further north, skies will be more overcast, but this is not expected to affect visibility for viewing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Widespread Snow Warnings for Friday
Moving into Friday, weather warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Plummet Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are set to drop further as snowfall and high winds are likely to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Alerts Released
At the same time, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to continue until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities said this signified the weather was likely to lead to significant impacts across medical and care provision. This involves a expected uptick in the number of deaths among the elderly or unwell or those aged 65 or over.
