Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
