Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
