A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
